Dear Legislator, It is sad to say that the United States is one of the few countries involved in the United Nations that has yet to ratify The Convention on the Rights of the Child. The convention recognizes that a child, for full harmonious development of his or her personality, should grow up in a family environment, in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding. It protects, for children, many of the rights guaranteed to adults such as freedom of religion, protection against all forms of sexual and economic exploitation and the right to privacy. The convention has left nothing left unsaid, even mentioning culture and tradition, and recognizing the correct ways for children to be educated. The
only way that this convention will have any chance of being
passed is with the help of people like you. We are in
need of Representatives to be heard on this topic.
Please do your best to ensure that this convention is
ratified by the United States so that these children we are
protecting today may one day become government leaders,
doctors, teachers and mothers and
fathers. |
