A SPECIAL ALERT FOR ALL NGOs!!!

in the United States of America

We need your immediate HELP and involvement!

There are two similarly unrelated problems on the rapid increase in our country:

No. 1: Armed and active farmer Militias who are recruiting in the cities and with veterans.

No.2: An increasing population of starving American Citizens. See our "Thursday UN NGO/DPI Briefings" of 11/13/97 and 11/20/97. These tapes may be borrowed and duplicated from the NGO/DPI Resource Center, UN Headquarters, Tel: 212-963-7233, 7234,7232 and Fax: 212-963-2819.

We need every citizen who cares... to become active in these two matters and NOW! Let's give all of us in America a real Christmas Holidays Present! The care of our citizens.

Lets take problem No. 2 first:

Some people now call New York City the "Third World" of the United States of America; All while the city reports an economic boom and a crime free city. "52 Percent of New York City's children are born into poverty!" If that does not impress you, see the "11/13/97 UN DPI/NGO Briefing" video tape. These tapes may be borrowed and duplicated from the NGO/DPI Resource Center, UN Headquarters, Tel: 212-963-7233, 7234, 7232 and Fax: 212-963-2819.

The number of hungry and starving American citizens is on the increase. The homeless and hunger food kitchens in New York City and Long Island are reporting that they are having to turn away more hungry each year; "72 thousand this year and increasing each year!" How is your city doing? There is less and less "giving" of food and the food kitchens supplies are dwindling. It is all part of "cutting the budget" and "you're not entitled to it" attitude of the people who have the means to assist. The impact of the Welfare cuts of $50 to $60 Billion dollars has exacerbated this situation (Most impacted by this are children.) We have pasted the disgusting phase of this.

The people who are effected by this and those who are compassionate about this growing problem have been told to "grow your own food" in the cities. Of course, the city has also told them not to grow it on the roof tops or the parks, so the space is limited. We need creative solutions to this growing problem and we need it now!

Now for problem No.1:

We have asked the Farmers what is their problem, and have been told by the majority that they would like a job...farming. They don’t want to lose their farms and homes and families while Archer Daniel Midland and others become the "Supermarket to the World." by moving the agriculture production offshore for cheaper labor (and higher prices back here in America.) Our situation with Wheat is a classic example of their strategy. The current attitude of the corporations is that they have no "Accountability" or "Responsibility" to the people, only to the stockholders... mainly themselves! We think it is more like no Morals or Values issue.

The farmers do not trust or want to talk to our government and our government does not trust them either, and has actually been labeling them "terrorists" and raiding them quietly.

Since we (NGOs) are the people who believe in our system and work towards positive solutions with or with out the cupidity and lack of compassion of others...we beg you, where ever you live across America to please go out to the farmers and talk to them. They are not terrorist and they are very patriotic Americans which we need badly.

We would like to form some kind of strategic alliance with the farmers, NGOs and the cities. Develop a new working relationship with our farmers to get them busy doing what they are best at...farming. They could supply the cities and the hungry with new distribution systems so that they can make money, survive and even expand their contribution to a growing problem with food, instead of reducing or marginalizing them.

Lets encourage ADM to think "global and act global" while we "think global and act local." Once we solve this problem we can help the rest of the world by setting up alternative food systems and distribution methodology. There are over a Billion of us human beings going to sleep every night hungry. This is a global problem that impacts us locally. It is good for the open "free markets" they are pushing all over the globe to consider alternative food distribution systems. This might just diffuse the pending world war (suggested by many experts) coming due to the food and water shortage. Actually, there is no food or water shortage, just mismanagement of the supply.

This will take a massive effort by all concerned people and NGOs. It might even be nice if we could find a few compassionate corporations to help. We are not claiming this as our idea, we want all of you to claim it as your idea and do something about it A.S.A.P.!

An organization called Just Food in New York City is conducting a program/workshop which might become the model for NGOs to use across the USA. The theme of the program is "Your Food Today and Tomorrow." This workshop focuses on "Strategies for Strengthening the Farms, Reducing Hunger and Creating Community." This group has been conducting this program for four years now.

They bring together diverse groups in a collaborative conference co-sponsored and co-organized by an array of organizations from the local region who are working on food, farming and hunger to learn more about local food systems and to explore ways we can work together to support stronger, healthier regional farms while providing better food and opportunities to low-income urban and rural residents. The groups usually include: farmers, gardeners, nutritionists and dietitians, anti-hunger activists, educators, food-system advocates, chefs, restaurateurs, students, business distribution experts and others who will look at creative solutions to food-related problems in our regions.

This model, once perfected, could be shared and tailored to specific regions and local conditions and used throughout the world. Right now, we need to concentrate on the U.S.A.

With positive solutions in mind and the creative efforts of us all, we can still keep the American Dream alive for ALL of us. It is that dream that the rest of the world is watching us for, now that we are the worlds leader. Lets not let ourselves down, or the rest of the world.

HELP!

How you can become involved...

1. Go to your NGOs in your area and get organized with a Food Plan-for-Action.
2. If you are an NGO, notify your members.
3. If you need more information contact us at Administrator.

Most importantly, let's start a dialog with our farmers before it goes to far. We have enough prisons and police on our streets...we do not need any more conflicts or our farmers in the prisons. We need our farmers and we need them NOW! And we are going to need them in the future even more.
