Where we create a collective voice.
Together we are Hope.

POSITIVE LIFE grew out of unrest. The unrest of silence and duress.

It also emerged as a promise that things can change.

We are a group of people in India, who have, for sometime now, been associated with the complex consequences of the HIV virus among our friends and families, among people we care for, our partners and colleagues, and indeed ourselves. Some of us in Positive Life are directly affected by FIN and hence deeply concerned.

We know what it truIy means to live with the virus in India.

Positive Life is a community organization. It seeks to explore and discover HIV: the struggle: the phenomenon; and its numerous metaphors.

Our core ideology comes from people living with the virus and the other people in their lives - people across the country, across groups and strata their families and friends, their doctors and counselors, their hopes and fears, their rejection and blame, their extreme isolation. For us, each day it matters ever more that we draw out a map for healing and caring, if not for 'the cure'.

Many members of Positive Life are people living with the virus. Though, confidentiality is very crucial. Many others are professionals and lay people who dream of a society that gives unflinching support. Many are friends who have survived the death of their loved ones. All are individuals who wish to harness the positive goodwill of our society in their response to HIV.

OUR RESPONSE TO THE EPIDEMIC

We remind ourselves constantly that HIV needs collective healing, because HIV is our collective epidemic.

We believe that information, sustained advocacy, and systematized referrals are the first steps towards caring and healing.

We envisage a healing of bodies and spirits, healing the hurt from a social rejection.

We see as possible, the caring of the many affected people, who have, willingly or otherwise, let HIV be a part of their lives

And the community of the affected includes everyone.

We interpret prevention as a part of the continuum of caring and not separate from it. From our experience, only information sustained, sensitive advocacy and access to good health with preserved human rights and dignity can begin the process.

We think People living with HIV in India have to constantly fight the fear of, rejection, and of social demise. And the palpable fear within leaves little breathing space for positive action. we feel that only a space or platform that heals cares and does not, pressurize or neglect. needs to be created.

Positive Life offers itself as that space.
