A famous old USA saying was, "As GM goes, so goes the country." Well, you see where GM is going... Now here is a real no-brainer: First you dump your workers for cheaper foreign labor. Then you shift your production overseas off-shore (China-India and many other places (Japan)) Then you teach them how to do it. Then they come back to USA with cheaper and better cars and knock us right out of the market. DA! Sony did it years ago when RCA sold them the rights to the TV's RCA invented. And look what happened to RCA!. You want to sell your products in China: you have to build a plant, train China workers, educate them in our best universities, and then even give them your technology secrets. Kodak and Boeing are a couple of recent examples...Goodbye Kodak and Boeing. It is only a matter of time. Then there is poor Taiwan, financing the Boeing plant for China (and many other investments for years in China) and getting "no respect" over at the UN, which it was one of the original founders of the UN in 1945. But, then why should the USA let a real Democracy in the UN?
By the way, the 1% rich are not worried: actual .999 of 1%. They will buy the intelligent workers and their companies anyplace on the globe. It is "Magic 101" not taught at Harvard or Wharton. It is just the magic of that old "Invisible Hand of Economics" at work.
A Worldwide internet which now exposes the USA's "other side" of the Capitalist Democracy/American Dream..."smell the sulfur?"
A (not so democratic) Democracy being imposed on other countries around the world through World Trade Organization, World Bank, IMF, USAID, Structural Adjustments, Privatize your businesses, cut your "entitlement systems" for your citizens, and consolidate the wealth in the hands of a few Rich Capitalists to the exclusion of the rest of the society, etc. etc. etc.
Could it be "backfiring" on them?
There is an obvious growing movement in Arab, Islamic, African, and South American countries (even some of the new Eastern European Countries) against Capitalism and Americas form of Democracy. Some countries are smart enough to understand the democratic system of "one-person-one-vote" (not true in the USA...they were even debating this during the recent confirmation of a Supreme Court Judge (Jan 2006.) Countries like Venezuela, Bolivia and Iraq have figured out that they can vote the "compassionate conservative, right-wing, take-all-for-themselves people" out of office. The USA system of Democracy is structured to prevent this from happening. You can't even have a "third party" in the USA. It is a two party system, one and the same, and corrupt. Every week it is a bank, an insurance company, a corporation, or a government official in the news doing something corrupt and committing a crime. If they are rich like AIG, or a major bank, they just pay the government admit no guilt, pass the costs off to their customers, and carry on ripping us all off. (PS: But there is no inflation...have you checked your bills lately?)
If it bleeds it leads! The corporate media tries to keep us focused on all the murders and beatings by your neighbors on the local news. Or, keep us focused and entertained with the dumb TV programming they offer.

The Rich attitude of "My way, or the Highway!" The way they are treating and talking to their workers is deplorable! But, they can get away with it because they have changed the labor laws so they can fire you on the spot anytime they want without cause. Now which of our elected government officials signed that law?

The Rich, Government and Corporations continue to cut the entitlement, services and benefits to their workers (crush the unions) as they move 10's of millions of jobs to China and India, while rapidly replacing others with new technologies.
Corporate CEO's continue to reward themselves millions of dollars of profits as they force their workers into temporary, no-benefit jobs.
Continue to tax the lower classes with clever new ways of taxation/fees/fines/gambling and other direct costs of living.
The changing of the definitions of the word "inflation," which use to mean the "cost of your living" (like rent, food, transportation, medical, prescriptions, and everything else...which are all going UP!) To their new definition of inflation..."corporate productivity," "cost-cutting, efficiency-programs." All meaning the continual cutting of the workforce and their benefits.
Massive corruption of the Government, Corporations and the Rich... A truly "Robber Baron" Era! Not just a few Robber Barons this time but a massive collaboration of The Rich, the corporations, and the Government. AIG agrees to pay the government $1 Billion dollars of the "insured" customers money. A classic example of how it all works. The money does not go back to the customers who paid their high premiums (proof is look at the profits of AIG.) It goes back to the corrupt government who is cutting the health benefits to their citizens and workers. Next AIG will increase their insurance rates and pass the costs off to little guy. And they wonder why Health costs and retirement benefits are disappearing for Americans.
Allowing the corporations to go bankrupt to protect their assets and dump their obligations to the workers promised pension funds. And, at the same time passing new laws to prevent middle class and lower socioeconomic individuals to protect their only real property; their homes.
Congress meeting at midnight to cut 50 Billion dollars out of the USA Budget by targeting the lower classes. The Governor of California a (true Republican) submitting the most recent budget (Jan. 2006) with the only cuts going to the little guys at the bottom of the society who can not fight back.
Current attempts to control the Press, Public Access TV, PBS, and Media (Broadcasts/Webcasts) in the USA.
"No man is above the Law" (Domestic and International).... Except the President. Global preemptive strikes against other countries against international law and the UN Charter; and domestic spying on their own citizens, and torture are a few of the exposed ones.
Total control of the Presidential Office, the House, the Senate, the Judicial System, even the Supreme Court by one party of the Rich (corporations). How convenient!
The biggest capitalist business in USA America is Pornography...the total cable system, Cablevision, Time Warner, Disney, Marriott, Hilton, AT&T and all the rest of Americas biggest hotels and many legitimate corporations can peddle porn right inside your house to your children via the internet without even asking you. This Is Big Business!! Anybody can send you porn e-mail. And, the FBI and NSA can look (Sneak & Peek) at your hard drives to see if you are a pervert. Now there is a oxymoron! And, who is the real "pervert" who puts cameras in your bedrooms and bathrooms? Where is Americas morality which we preach to the rest of the world?
Then there is Katrina...Oops! America's real poverty exposed (in only one of its cities). But, more importantly, how does the rich respond? They don't! They tell the lower classes to give their money, clothes, food, time and efforts to clean it up. Try NYC with 54% of its children born into poverty. And a Mega-Rich NYC Mayor who gets on TV and asks the lower classes to give their food and money to feed the poor. And, ADM (Archer Daniel Midland) who use to use the mantra on their TV commercials, "We are the bread basket to the world." (PS: You are doing a poor job!) No wonder they quickly changed that one! "We are turning your food (Corn and Soy Beans) into fuel for our gas guzzlers." Makes you wonder who is their creative ad agency?
The whole system of "Cosmetic Philanthropy" of the Foundations for the Rich... is solely to protect and expand their wealth by giving the "required 5%," while investing the other 95% tax free.
Making pledges at the United Nations in front of the rest off the world (192 UN Member Countries) and never funding their promises.
Telling the rest of the world to "Be Like Us." I don't think they (the rest of the world is buying the pitch) are buying the message. We have lost our credibility and integrity. No one trusts the Americans.

October 16, 2007 - Oil reaches new records above $87. In Tuesday trading, US light, sweet crude rose as high as $87.97 a barrel before easing back to $87.61, while Brent finished at $84.16. 
Oil reached a record high of $98.62 a barrel in November 2007.
